“YOU DO NOT NEED FLUENCY IN A LANGUAGE TO CONNECT ON A LEVEL OF AUTHENTICITY AND UNSPOKEN UNDERSTANDING”

“Axel was a perfect match for our family. We had so much in common as far as interests and personalities. We could not have asked for a more ideal situation. Amazing! What an adventure for a child so young.

He fit right in, was pleasant, polite and ready to enjoy the experience. He adapted fabulously to our family and routine – no issues! We loved every minute we had with Axel. We felt very able to take care of his needs and make him comfortable and welcome him into our family.

It was truly an amazing experience…well beyond what any of us anticipated. We have connected with Axel’s entire family! His 16 year old sister and our daughter (16 also) talk regularly on Facebook.

Thank you for the gift of new friends in our life! We learned so much – it was just an incredible experience!” – Jennifer M.

We spent much more time as a family. He helped open our world – ‘get out of the box’ mentality.” – Hastad Family

“Personally, I learned a lot about the little things I take for granted like having the Mall of America or a tire swing.” – Garrett Family

“We were all so excited to have her come to Minnesota. It was the highlight of our summer!” – Johnson Family

“Amazingly perfect!!! THANK YOU VIE!!!” – Oehlers Family

MERCI!

The Minnesota Host Program owes its success every year to families like yours. This past summer was a HUGE summer for VIE! We had a large number of students coming from France and we were so delighted by all the wonderful host families who were willing to open their homes to these French students. Reading over the evaluations from the French students, they had nothing but wonderful things to say about ALL of you!

As you know, hosting a student from another country can do some amazing things for host families. Most families commented that they actually spent more time as a family than they usually do, and everyone commented on how much they learned about other cultures and even their own! It sounds like quite a few of you now have plans to see your French student again! That’s fantastic!

It’s amazing how much Minnesota and Western Wisconsin has to offer and our host families do a fabulous job showing it off. The French students fall in love with the Midwest every year which is exactly why the Host Program in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin is BY FAR the largest host program VIE has in the entire United States! The families are amazing, the scenery is breath-taking…what more could a French student ask for?

THE 2017 SUMMER PROGRAM IS COMING!

Every summer we rely on referrals from pervious host families to continue placing our students in quality homes in the area. If you know a family who would like to be part of this wonderful experience please forward our website for the new online registration.

Applications are considered in the order they are received in our office. If a family needs to host on specific dates, or prefer a certain gender and/or age, they should send in the application right away. Families can also submit the online form right away.

The matching process usually starts in mid-April and can take a couple months. We work as fast as we can, but we want to be sure the matches we are making are the best matches possible for everyone. Again, keep in mind the date the family sends in the application is very important in our matching! It is best, if possible, to get the application in before April, but it shouldn’t discourage families from sending in an application in May or June if it takes the family until then to decide to host. We will do our best to find a great match!

If the host family’s availability changes after the application has already been submitted, please send VIE a quick email to let us know (preferably before we start matching) at vistas@vistasineducation.com.

THE FRENCH STUDENTS SAY THEY LEARNED:

“I learned how to live like a real American, and improve my level of English.”

“I learned about a new culture, new English words, and that the United States (Minnesota in particular) is fantastic!”

“I discovered that the United States seems to be a country where people can feel safe and welcome.”

“I met a wonderful family who happily showed me their way of life.”

“A lot of vocabulary and new expressions. Also a way of life different than in France. I learned a lot and I will return to France with my spirit full of wonderful memories.”

“I really think I dramatically improved my English which will help me in my future studies.”

Become A Host

Hosting a French student is an exciting and enriching experience for the entire family! By welcoming a young person as a member of your family, he or she will take part in all aspects of your family’s daily life and activities. Opening your home to a young French person will allow your family to learn about a new culture, as well as make a new friendship that can last a lifetime.

From our office in Minneapolis, VIE staff coordinate the largest U.S. host program which brings approximately 100 French students to Minnesota each summer.

Other program locations throughout the U.S. vary by year and are run by local VIE coordinators. If you are a French teacher interested in coordinating a host program in your area, please contact VIE for more information.

Merci Beaucoup!!!
